Burns Clinical

Dr McKeen graduated from UBC Medical School in 1992 and completed her Family Practice Residency in 1994. She began her career as a physician in the Canadian Forces as a Medical Officer, serving with combat arms units in Alberta (1994 to 1997) and providing occupational and environmental medicine (diving and flight/aviation specialty training) from 1997 to 2008 in Esquimalt. She was Senior District Medical Officer for Veterans Affairs Canada (2009 – 2014) in Victoria.

Through her career she has seen the great need for addiction and mental health service, in rural locations, with industry in remote locations, and locally in Victoria. She is a member of CSAM.

A passion for understanding health systems developed within her at a GPSC Physician Leadership and Management Program (2014), leading to an MBA (UVic, 2018) and a Fellowship in Health System Improvement (UofA, 2020). She joined the Victoria Division of Family Practice Board in 2013 and has been the Co-chair of the Division since 2014.
